The World Changing Abilities of Entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship has the unique power to transform the lives of not only the person starting the company but also the entire community in which the firm is founded. People talk about the businesses that make it big, such as Tesla and Google, but often fail to celebrate the local pizza shop or small furniture manufacturer who have been hugely successful in their local markets.

With an increasing emphasis on local products we have seen a surge in small scale entrepreneurs who deserve much more praise than they have been receiving. It is these many companies, started by people with a deep passion for what they do, that truly transform the world.

It is no secret that I have always held entrepreneurs in high regard. I firmly believe that becoming an entrepreneur is not only one of the bravest things you can do, but it is also incredibly selfless. Regardless of where you call home, starting a business is good for yourself, your local economy, and the world at large. The risks being taken by these individuals improve the lives of everyone involved and can be true difference makers for the economies they choose to open in. With these risks comes high reward potential both monetarily and socially.

From a monetary standpoint, starting a new company is certainly a gamble. Even the best devised business plans can fall flat on their face, leading to a complete financial loss. Yes, you will always learn something in a failure but there is still the sting of losing all of your starting capital that can be a hard pill to swallow.

That being said, being an entrepreneur can also be an incredible source of revenue and freedom for those who choose that path. Having even one modestly successful company in your local area can bring in more than enough revenue to support yourself and your family as well as all of your employees.

Finances are necessary to keep your firm and family afloat but the true beauty of entrepreneurship is the social value it creates. That small coffee shop you started is not only a source of income for you personally but it is supporting the lives of all your employees as well as providing your community with a dynamic meeting place. The entrepreneurial ventures started every day in communities just like yours are a key source of the culture in an area. The culture being built by entrepreneurs in these areas becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy with more businesses like theirs opening in an area bringing in an increasingly diverse customer base. Just think of places like Nashville, Tennessee where Broadway has become a mecca for country music fans largely thanks to the small businesses who opened up there and offered live music at their bars. This socially dynamic (and incredibly fun) environment was only made possible through entrepreneurs and small business owners who wanted what was best for both their business and their community.

Overall, the business community and entrepreneurs in particular have an incredible amount of power to change and improve the world. This should be actively thought about and used to the best of your ability to make the change you wish to see in the word happen.
